Driver CPC Explained

What is Driver CPC?

The Driver CPC is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life. There are two parts to the legislation:

  • The Initial Qualification that must be achieved by new LGV and PCV drivers along with their vocational licence to enable them to use their licence professionally.
  • Periodic Training, which involves all professional drivers undertaking 35 hours of training every 5 years .

Periodic Training is designed to compliment and expand the existing knowledge and skills of each driver, to ensure that they continue to be safe, courteous and fuel-efficient drivers. This will also enable drivers to keep up-to-date with ever changing regulations and to benefit from training throughout their whole career.

BSD Training has developed a range of courses that count towards the 35 required hours.

All courses are JAUPT approved and can be tailored to suit your company or individual needs.

How will it affect me?

All drivers will need to complete a minimum of 35 hours of periodic training within every 5 year period. The training will require attendance at courses ideally 7 hours per year over the 5 year period and no exams are required at the end of the course. To keep your Driver CPC and to continue to drive professionaly you will need to undertake regular periodic traning.
