Unit 1 - Location and avoidance of underground apparatus

The course covers the main legislation and operating techinques for using a CAT (cable avoidance tool) and Geny (signal generator). This course is available for both Operatives and Supervisors of streetworks.

At the end of the course the delegate will be able:

  • Interpret the utility plans and point out the ground where the services are and interpret the symbols on the plans
  • Recognise a range of services commonly found when carrying out excavations
  • Identify the risks of damage to services and the implications of such damage to Gas, Water and Electricity.
  • Use cable location equipment to find and trace underground services. (At least three to include BT, and Electric cables).
  • Describe the services that cannot be found with conventional cable location equipment.

On completion of the course delegates will recieve a CABWI certificate of unit completion. This unit can then go towards your complete streetworks qualification.
